Playing instructions, common questions, and a way to reach us.
Getting started
- Choose a word length: four, five, six, or seven letters.
- Select a category and difficulty. Easy reveals two letters, Normal reveals one, and Hard reveals none.
- Type a guess on the on-screen keyboard and press Enter.
- Use the tile colors to work out the answer before your guesses run out.
In the Standard scheme, green means the letter is in the right position, yellow means it belongs elsewhere in the word, and gray means it is not in the word.
The ten categories are Basic Words, Common Words, Animals, Food, Places, Nature, Sports, Science, Music, and All Words. You can play as many games as you like; there is no daily limit.
Earning and using hints
Win three games in a row at the same word length to earn two hints. Your hint pool carries over between games; losing or changing word length resets the win streak.
Tap the lightbulb icon to use a hint. It reveals a letter position, avoiding pre-populated letters and positions you have already found.
Choose a color scheme
Open Settings using the gear icon, scroll to Color Scheme, and choose an option. Four schemes support different vision needs:
Standard
- Correct position
- Wrong position
- Not in word
Red-Green CVD
- Correct position
- Wrong position
- Not in word
Alternative
- Correct position
- Wrong position
- Not in word
High Contrast
- Correct position
- Wrong position
- Not in word
Red-Green CVD is the option for deuteranopia and protanopia. Alternative is designed for tritanopia. High Contrast provides an option for low vision, with patterns and borders for added distinction.
Streaks and statistics
Tap the chart icon to see games played, win percentage, current and best streaks, and guess distribution. Statistics are tracked separately for each word length.
Why did my streak reset?
Losing a game or changing word length resets the current streak. For example, switching from a five-letter game to a six-letter game starts the streak at zero.
Devices and offline play
Mystiword works without an internet connection.
- iPhone: portrait orientation.
- iPad: portrait and landscape, with Split View and Slide Over support.
