Getting started
Each page of the library is a board of letters with a short list of words to uncover. Spell every listed word to restore the page.
- Drop a letter. The next three letters wait above the board. Tap a column arrow or an empty cell to preview where the next letter will land, then tap Drop. Changing your mind before you drop costs nothing.
- Slide a tile. Drag the top tile of any column left or right. It crosses supported spaces and falls into the first gap. Tiles never rise, and buried letters cannot move.
- Collect a word. When a target word is ready, its tiles gain a gold outline. Tap the word, then tap Clear.
Each attempt has a limited number of drops, shown beside the letter queue. There is no timer.
Finding and collecting words
Words read in all eight straight directions: across, down, and diagonally, forward or backward. A word needs at least three letters. Target words have gold outlines; other words of three or more letters have mint outlines and earn bonus points when collected, which also makes room on the board.
Tap a ready target chip above the board, or any letter in a ready word, to select it. A dot and arrow show the reading direction. When letters belong to more than one word, the Words here list lets you choose. If a tap does not form a word, the message explains why and keeps your first letter selected.
Why wasn't my word accepted?
LetterDrop uses its own curated list of about 3,300 common, family-friendly English words. Proper names, abbreviations, and words shorter than three letters are not included. The word must also be in a straight line with no gaps.
What do the points mean?
Every collected word scores ten times its length squared: CAT earns 90, BOOK earns 160, LIBRARY earns 490. Points are a record of how you played, not something you can spend.
Spells, undo, and retry
Three spells unlock as you play the guided campaign, and all three are available in the difficulty campaigns. Each has one charge per attempt. Select a spell, choose an area, then confirm.
- Quill removes one letter.
- Ink Burst clears a 2 × 2 area.
- Spell Shuffle rearranges the letters in a 3 × 3 area.
Spells award no points, and a preview warns you if removing letters would make a remaining target impossible.
Undo
You have three undos per attempt. An undo restores the whole previous action, including its score and any spell charge it spent.
Running out of drops
When drops run out you can keep playing with the letters on the board, slide, collect words, and use spells. Retry restores the page with fresh drops, spells, and undos. An attempt ends only when no legal moves remain or there are not enough letters left to make every remaining target.
Chapters and difficulty campaigns
The guided campaign has 100 pages in ten chapters. Early pages teach one idea at a time, and spells arrive as you progress. Completing a page unlocks the next.
Tap Choose difficulty in the library for five more campaigns: Beginner, Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert, each with 200 boards. Every campaign keeps its own unlocks, best scores, and one unfinished board, so you can switch between them freely.
Can I replay a page?
Yes. Open a completed page from your collection and choose Replay. Best scores are kept.
I opened another page and lost my board.
Each campaign saves one unfinished board. The app warns before replacing it. Use Continue in the library, or the page marked Resume in your collection, to return to an unfinished board.
Packs and restoring purchases
Chapter 1 of the guided campaign and the first five boards of Beginner, Easy, and Medium are free. Each difficulty is available as a one-time pack, and Everything opens all five. Any pack also opens guided chapters 2 through 10. There are no subscriptions and no ads.
Purchases are made through the App Store and are tied to your Apple Account. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency.
Restoring on a new device
Open Settings from the library, or any pack offer, and tap Restore Purchases. The App Store confirms what you own and the app unlocks it. You need to be signed in to the same Apple Account that made the purchase.
The store can't be reached
The pack offer loads prices from the App Store. If it reports that the store cannot be reached, check your connection and open the offer again. Packs you already own keep working offline.
Refunds
Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account that made the purchase.
Settings and accessibility
Open Settings from the controls icon in the library.
- Fast play drops a letter as soon as you tap a column and shortens animations. The first-page guide still asks you to confirm.
- Teaching hints explain new moves and spells. Word forecasts show which words a preview will form. Turn either off independently. You can still ask for a hint from the ? menu.
- Sound, music, and haptics each have their own switch.
LetterDrop follows your device's Reduce Motion setting, replacing falls and particle effects with immediate changes. With VoiceOver on, the board becomes an accessible grid where each tile offers slide actions, so the whole game can be played without drag gestures. Screens rearrange at larger text sizes.
Devices and saved progress
LetterDrop works without an internet connection. Your collection, best scores, settings, and current page are saved on the device.
- iPhone: portrait orientation.
- iPad: portrait and landscape.
LetterDrop does not sync progress between devices. Deleting the app removes its local saved progress, though copies may remain in device backups. Purchases can be restored on any device signed in to the same Apple Account. For details about saved data and backups, see the privacy policy.
